2011 - NOMINATIONS FOR SFLERP's SIXTEENTH ANNUAL LABOR MANAGEMENT COOPERATION AWARD

The Society's Board of Directors is accepting nominations the SEVENTEENTH Annual Labor-Management Cooperation Award which will be presented during the Society's 38th Annual Symposium to be held May 12-13, 2011, in Arlington, VA. The Award is presented annually to the Federal agency and union which best exemplify the Board's goal of recognizing cooperative labor management relationship. Deadline for submitting nominations is Thursday, April 21, 2011. Nominations may be mailed to:

SFLERP will consider nominations for the following categories:

Most improved relationship. The parties had a recognized uncooperative relationship and have made steps to improve the labor management relationship which have yielded demonstrable results.


A sustained level of cooperative relations. The parties: (a) have a history of successful resolution of problems, with or without third party assistance, as evidenced by low arbitration rates or grievances going to the final steps; and (b) successful resolution of midterm and term negotiations as evidenced by minimal requests for FSIP assistance.


Most innovative labor management relationship. Although having a "normal" labor management relationship, the parties utilize a number of innovative dispute resolution techniques (e.g., grievance mediation, interest-based negotiations and problem solving; labor management committees).

Nominations may be made by any interested party. Self nominations, by the union and agency involved, may also be submitted. The SFLERP Board will accept confidential nominations; however, the identity of the nominator must be known to the Board. Nomination Form may be duplicated and distributed, and must contain the following information:

1. The name of the nominator, including a statement of the nominator's relationship to the nominee;
2. The names and other information of the nominee union and agency and their signatures (unless nomination is confidential in which case SFLERP will contact them to inform them of the nomination),
and the names, titles, addresses, and phone numbers of at least two references.
3. A statement (not to exceed 1,000 words) of reasons why the nominees should receive an award, including anecdotal information.
